With the holidays, I have been able to see a lot of family that I do not get to see very often. My cousin Jessica is currently living in Chicago and this was her first visit home since moving away. I enjoy photographing her as we always have a great time and she is quick to say “OK”, if I ask her to climb a tree, lay in weeds and so on. This year, I photographed her in the backyard.
With the recent snow on the ground, I decided to go hiking at Catalina State Park in Tucson, AZ. The park has beautiful scenery and trails into the mountains. The streams were running and all the saguaros were covered in snow. I took my parent’s dog Caesar for company and I think he had as good a time as I did.
As I have been staying in Yuma, AZ for the holidays, I decided to take my cousins Cassie and Jessica and do an impromptu photo shoot. We live way out in the country surrounded by lettuce fields so I had them trekking through the mud and lettuce, but I got some amazing photographs. My beautiful cousins were great models and the whole shoot was a lot of fun. These photos are lightly edited, but I love the natural, bright look.
Last week, my fellow photographer friends and I got together with our graphic designer friends to decorate some Christmas cookies. Decorating the cookies was a lot of fun, even though Jay only made inappropriate ones. Somehow, one cookie ended up having a whole orange on top. It was very relaxing and a great time spent with the friends I have made here. Later that day, we all went to Liz’s home for dinner before heading out to see the Boston Pops Christmas show at Symphony Hall. The venue was beautiful and the show was amazing. The orchestra played Christmas classics with a few new twists.
As a graduate with a degree in Classics, I have always loved Greek and Roman myths. I have taken on the personal project of recreating these myths in photo form. I am currently in the final stages of the myth of Apollo and Daphne, but this last weekend, I wanted to get started on a new myth and I chose to portray the myth of Pandora. As that is still in the early stages, I thought I would share with you the photos that I took later, just for fun.
A few weeks ago, we were asked to shoot several models in the studio. We had to make several key decisions from the lighting and sets, to their hair and wardrobe. I shot everything from simple portraits to high-fashion. We were also asked to shoot a model and incorporate motion. For this, I styled my model and then used a scarf to incorporate the motion.
Last weekend, some friends and family visited me from Arizona. We had a great time visiting Boston, Salem, and Cambridge. It was a busy weekend, but all I can remember is that we seemed to be eating the whole weekend. In addition to the restaurants we visited, we went to Trinity Church, Boston Common, Boston Public Garden, and walked the Freedom Trail. All in all, it was memorable weekend.
I went apple picking for the first time and as a girl from Arizona, it was very exciting. The apples were delicious and I ate several straight from the tree. The orchard was picturesque and as there were two photography students in our group, the event naturally turned into a photo session. My friend Jay Lublang and I photographed our friends from The Sandbox Sessions, Tess and Liz. They were such good sports and we all had a wonderful time. We capped the morning off with sweet cider donuts and apple cider. It was a delicious morning!
